Online concerns for countries in EU
06-May-2009
Germany and Spain people seems to be the most concerned in security to ranking at or near the highest level of concern related to Internet and personal security.
For US, Australia, Brazil and New Zeeland, the main security concern during the financial crisis is related to credit card fraud. The result was obtained from a survey conduct by Unisys Security Index association during April 2009.
Regarding the European countries, I will make a short review based on the same survey conduct by Unisys Security Index associations and their results. It is also interesting to compare the results and see which are more concerned, US citizens or EU citizens. The countries in EU where Unisys has implemented the survey were: Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and UK.

On the other hand, Netherlands and Belgium rank to the lowest level of concerns related to security, while UK is somewhere in the middle. Below you can see a suggestive graphic presenting the situation:

The main concern was credit card fraud, the same as for the US citizens. People are afraid that their credit or debit card details can be stolen and used by Internet thieves. Correlated to this, the second concern is about Internet identity thefts. These fears might be the reason of the large amount of spam that people receive but also the virus attacks. If people would have updated technologies and well secured systems these concerns would be useless. It is also disturbing the fact that during this crisis there was an increasing number of websites that host malware. More than that, people are accusing and consider that banks are responsible for their security.
Comparing the results from EU countries with the ones from US, Australia, Brazil and New Zeeland, the country which rank to the highest level of concerns related to security is Brazil, followed by Germany and Spain. Netherlands and Belgium are still ranking to the lowest level of concerns related to security together with Australia.
Indifferent the security concern each country is having, the best option is to improve our systems and even if we have to pay more money for this, in the end it’s all about our safety.
